Description
1920 American LaFrance 'Type 75' Pump & Hose Car. This "Type 75" pump and hose car was delivered to the town of Amebury, Massachusetts on August 20, 1920. Amesbury is not far from Springfield Body Company where the "Springfield" or "Flare" style body was developed. The flared running boards allowed more firefighters to be carried on the vehicle in relative safety. The "Flare" style body was popular in central Massachusetts but was rarely used anywhere else. This vehicle carried 1,000 feet of 2 1/2 inch hose and American LaFrance's popular 750 gpm pump. There were also under seat storage compartments and a rack mounted basket provided for carrying tools and other firefighting equipment.
This vehicle is on Display Courtesy of American LaFrance, LLC at the American LaFrance museum in Charleston, South Carolina.
