1939 Buffalo Fire Appliance Company Fire Truck. This striking yellow fire engine was manufactrured in 1939 by the Buffalo Fire appliance Company of Buffalo, NY. It is an example of the company's "Pathfinder" model.
It is equipped with one hand lantern, a large and a small hand suction hose, a hose clamp, an Indian tank, an extension ladder, a chemical hose mounted at the top with a chemical nozzle, two hoses connected to the pump (Mattydale Lay Style), 2 fire extinguishers, 2 straight stream controlling nozzles, and 4 spanner wrenches. It also has a 500 GPM triple combination "Hale" pump.
In 1955, the South Bay Fire Department acquired this truck from the Mattydale Fire Department as ther first fire truck. It was retired from active service in 1971. In 1982 the Mattydale FD purchased the truck from the South Bay FD and refurbished it. In 1990, the Mattydale FD donated the truck to the FASNY Museum of Firefighting.
The Mattydale Fire Department is know for the "Mattydale Lay", the first pre-connected cross lay. That was invented and installed by Chief Burton L. Eno in 1947-48.
