Description
1911 Hose Wagon built by Charles Mayer and delivered to the village of Mamaroneck in June 1911. It is constructed of solid oak. Two Columbia Engine & Hose Company No. 2 firemen, Harry Weeks and Joseph McKinerney did the ironwork. William O'Connell Sr. and Dennis LaHey applied the red paint and did the gold leaf work. During the machine's five-year stay with the company, "Blackie" a horse owned by a member of the company usually pulled the hose wagon. When Blackie was not available, the apparatus had to be pulled and pushed by the fire men to the scene of the fire.
In 1916, when the fire department acquired a motorized apparatus, this wagon was then used to haul farm products to nearby markets for 22 years. In 1938 it was wheeled into a barn, where it remained for thirty years until its return to Mamaroneck in Westchester County, NY. where it was completely restored for use in parades. It was later donated to the FASNY Museum by the Mamaroneck Fire Department.
