1911 American LaFrance Metropolitan Steamer at the Orlando Fire Museum.
Restoration of the nickel-plated brass was performed through the endless volunteer hours performed by Jack Kase and Barron's Silver Clinic. After some debate over the merits of chrome or nickel plate, this steamer was replated with nickel in the late 1950s by the Orlando Fire Department. This is in keeping with the original plating. At that time, Willie Flick of the Orland F.D. restored the paint and gold leaf. The inevitable oxidation and pitting of the nickel plate has been carefully hand-polished and the steamer now shines as it did in the early 1900s.
